do something to ease the situation.
There Is a world-wide financial disturb
ance. It is felt in the Bourse in Paris
and Berlin and British consols are lower.
Our New York Stock Exchange disturb
ance hat been particularly severe but it
W believed to be due to matter not
particularly confined to the United
Statej and to matter wholly unconnect
ed with any governmental action; it
aiav all be that of the government's de
termination in which, gentlemen, it will
mot waver, to punih certain malefactors
f great wealth has been responsible for
one of the troubles; at least to the
extent of having caused these men to
combine to bring about as much financial
tress a they possibly can, in order to
discredit the government's policy, and
. thereby secure a reversal of that policy
o that they niavi enjoy fruit of their
evil-doings, that they have misled a
great many people into believing there
should be such reversal, is possible. If
so, I am sorry, but it will not alter my
attitude. Once, for all time, let me say,
o long as I am concerned, for the 18
month of run administration that re
wain there will be no changes in the
policy we have steadily pursued, nor let
p in our efforts to secure an honest ob
servance of the law, for I regard this
contest as one to determine who shall
rale this government the people,
through their governmental agents or a
.few ruthless, determined men whose
wealth makes them particularly formid
able, because they are behind the breast
works of corporate organizations. I
wish there to be no mistake on this
point. It is idle to ask me not to
prosecute criminals, rich or poor.
"But I desire no less emphatically to
have it understood that we have taken
and will undertake no action of
vindictive type and, above all,
one which shall inflict great or unmerit
ed suffering upon innocent stockholders
and upon the public as a whole.
"Our purpose is to act with a minimum
ef harshness compatible with obtaining
our ends, in the man of great wealth !
who earned his moner honestly we
recognize a citizen worthy of all praise
aid respect.
'"Business can only be done, under
modern conditions through corporations
and our purpose is heartily to favor cor
pontions that do well. The administra
tion apreciates that liberal but honest
profit for legitimate promoters and gen
erous dividends for capital employed
either in founding or continuing an hon
est business ventuic are the factors nec
essary for successful corporate activity
m i therefore, for generally proeprous
business conditions. All these are com
patible with fair dealing, as between
man and man, all rigid obedience to the
law. Our aim is to help every honest
n.an. eveiy honest corporation and our
policy mejns in its ultimate analysis a
healthy and pro-perous expansion of the
business activities of honest business
ien and honest corporations.
WOODBURN HERE ON SUNDAY.

The Woodburn team is a strong team.
Concannon will pitch Sunday's game and
he is a terror to the team in hn part
of the state. "Curt" Coleman plays
second base and his part of the ter
ritory is well taken care of. Coleman
is about the best second baseman in the
league and his work in the game is
worth coming to see alone, aside from
the other features of the game.
The Bohemians are strengthening up
to meet the Woodburn players and are
confident from their victory over the
Cubs on last Sunday. This trip is the
longest jump that the Woodburn team
make1). Blossom will captain the Bo
