SESSION CONTINUES
IN COURT
FURTHER SESSION OF CIRCUIT
COURT HELD YESTERDAY AND
CASES TRIED ARE HOT VERY
NUMEROUS.
Judge McBride handed down the fol
lowing decisions in the circuit court
yesterday: E. T. Stafford vs. D. F.
Stafford, sale confirmed. Ollie C. Mc
Kay vs. William C McKay, decree of
divorce granted on grounds of desertion.
The application of Edward Storm, an
alien, to become a citizen of the United
States was continued till September
17th. In the afternoon the case of R. E.
Carruthers vs. George H. George et al
came before C. E. Eunyon a referee for
the hearing of testimony. The action
arose out of an attempt made by the
schooner Jessie at deep-sea fishing some
time ago.
, PERSONAL MENTION.
Will Madison is awa"y from town pay
ing a visit to his former borne at Inde
pendence. Mrs. M. J. Fomeroy is a visitor at
the home of her son, Sheriff M. E. Porae
roy. At present Mrs. Fomeroy is down
from Rainier.
The Rev. C. L. Owen has arrived in
the city. He will take up his worn a
pastor of the First Baptist Church im
mediately. Mr. Owen is accompanied by
his family.
G. E. Pain, the cashier of the Colum
bia River Packers' Association, is down
with an attack of measles, and is at
home. This is considered rather a ser
ious complaint to attack a man who
has reached maturity, but fortunately
Mr. Pain's attack is not very severe.
A party consisting of W. F. McGregor,
Asmus Brix, R. B. Dyer, a a (Jordan,
R. H. Jenkins, Chris Schmidt went to
Young's River yesterday to visit Brem

L. Mansur was up from his Cannon
Beach place yesterday and reports

there. He is now in the midst of baying
and is harvesting a good crop.
J, H. Bowlsby's brother visited him
in the city jail yesterday, where Bowls
by is still confined pending bis trial for
the slayinir of Cleve Jennings. His
brother came up from San Francisco.

Henry Hoeck, who has a big logging
contract for the Simpson Logging Com
pany at North Bend, paid a visit to the
city yesterday. Mr. Hoeck has now
gone to Portland.
Walt Ingalls was in from the Lewis
4 Clark yesterday. He says this Is the
best season he has seen for the farmers
for years as the weather has been just
right and everything is in a flourishing
condition. He expects to begin haying
right after the Fourth.
Judge Dean Blanchard was in the city
yesterday. He reports everything pros
perous at Rainier and that he in selling
considerable property. Lots which a ifew
years ago be tried to sell for $200 ure
now selling for $1000. Rainier is rap
idly coming to the front as one of the
most prosperous towns between Aston
and Portland.
