R1VERGIVES UPDEAD BODY OF MAN A BODY PRESUMABLY THAT OF A HUNTER FOUND ON TIDEi FLATS OF KNAPPT0N ISLAND. Yesterday Coroner Pohl was notified that the dead body of a man waa lying on the tide flat at Knappa inland. Coroner Pohl immediately dlspatohed bia deputy, It. Pohl, to take charge of the body and bring it to Astoria. The deputy took a launch up the river, but was unable in the ahallow water to ap proach near enough to recover the man. He wa obliged to obtain a light kirr and with this was enabled to-haul th corpse into deeper water from which it could be lifted into the boat. Upon ex amination th body proved to be that of a big man; he hud a sandy mustache but he bad been dead and subject to the action of the water so long that his features were -wholly unrecognisable, and nothing can be learned from them. Apart from this tha man waa dressed in overalls and a vest He bad no coat on but a number of cartridges In his pockets seem to point to the fact that he was a hunter, and in all probability he had upset from some small duck boat and had been drowned. Besides tha shells he had in hia pockets a purse containing $1,09 and a pen knife. He wore a very large sled leather lace shoe, at least a No. 10. The spot where the body was found is covered with water at high tide. There has beA a logger missyig from the neighborhood recently, but if is not thought probable that the body found yesterday is that of th missing man. Cheap Rate The A. C.
