Roma tlm go a large Industrial con cern of th Eat sent a representative to Pittsburg with the authority to employ on hundred draftsmen and engineer with thorough technical qualifications. The reprevntativa wa able to aecure only forty, and these he had to pay any where from fifty to sixty per cent more than they were then earning to Induce them to change. The Incident emphasised the great 'de. mend there is for technically trained men In every part of tho United States. Xot only are their services required at high aiariea-ln all kinds of construc tion work, but they ar a much In de mand for administrative position. A large proportion of the men at the heads of the various railroad companies are thoe with engineering edncntions, and It is stated on good authority that sixty per cent of the officials of the steel In dustry are technically trained men Such I the demand for the man with a technical education that a writer in a recent number of a national industrial publication refer to him as th "auto crat df the business world," meaning that h may command almost auy salary within reason The same writer cite the fact that Industrial employers are eagerly seeking the graduate of the technical schools, and mention an in stance where one firm wanted to employ the entire graduating class of a well- known engineering university No single agency has done so much to give men technical training as has the International Correspondence Schools of Scranton, Pa. By the unique meth ods of this great institution, young men may gain thorough tecnnlcal training in all the loading engineering trades and professions, without giving up any em ployment that they may have. In al most all large industrial concerns of America thee Schools have graduates working with the graduates of leading universities. The Sohools can point to thousands of case whore men formerly working as laborers or occupying in ferior positions have, through the I. O. S. perfected system of training by mall, become engineers. superintendents, managers, foreman, or head of their own enterprises. In fact, the International Correspond ence School make it so easy for the ambitious man, in his spare hours and at small expense, 1 to rise to the level of the high-salaried expert that no man can now say truthfully that he lacks opportunity. The International Correspondence Schools are represented In Astoria by Mr. II, Harris, who i always glad to give any one, free of ohargo, Informa tion concerning any of the more than 200 courses of home-study offered by the I.
