DAIRY COLONISTS FOR ASTORIA EXPECTED THAT 20 OR 30 FAMI LIES WILL ARRIVE IN MAY OR JUNE. Manager Whyte of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday received a let ter from E. W. Richter, of Owatonna, Minn., saying that he wanted to bring a special colony, to this territory, to settle on dairy lands. Mr. Whyte has taken up the work of securing options on the available dairy land In the vi clnlty and It is thought that Mr. Rlch ter and , the colonists, consisting of from 20 to 30 families will arrive some time in May or June. Manager Whyte ts anxious to learn of any dairy land that may be for sale, In this vicinity. A. E. Buttner called at the Chamber rooms yesterday and stated that his interests henceforth were identical "with those of Astoria and that he could he counted on to do anything In his power to further a "Greater Astoria." JBr. Buttner clinched his statement by equaling the largest subscription on the books, by signing his name for 300 and depositing It in cash. Mr. Buttner Is traveling auditor for the Welnhard brewery and stated that Paul Wessenger and an architect will arrive In Astoria next month, to con fer on the plans for a new hotel. Peplow, of Seattle, in response to a letter from Manager Whyte asking why the power used to operate the new mill of Mr. Hammonds could not alto be realised for the purpose of run ning a flour mill. Mr. Peplow stated that providing Astoria secured the common point rate on wheat the mill would be built and predicted a great future for Astoria In the Tour busi ness when that condition is fulfilled. A postal card and letter from Master A drain Ford, a 10-year-old school boy of Astoria, containing the names of 125 persons to whom the advertising literature is to be sent This Is by far the greatest list that has been turned in by any one person.
