Halferty has sufficiently recovered
from bla prolongs! Illness that he Is
able to resume his work at the D. L.
Kelly Lumber Company.
Well arranged gar Jena are usually
appreciated by all Last year Mrs.
Munson had one of the prettiest gar
dens In town. Apparently she pur
poses surpassing her previous efforts
for in addition to her fine collection of
eutdoor plants and bulbs she is pre
paring to raise flowers of a more deli
cate nature. Her brother Mr. T. S.
Jewett of Hammond Is building a con
servatory for her, and also attending to
her garden, from the flower beds to
the potato patch.
Mrs. C. Snyder has decided to re
linquish the boarding house business,
at the end of this week.
Last evening about six o'clock, W.
C. Hardle the expressman, suddenly
started on a downward career and did
not stop until he had touched bottom.
He was hauling a load of timbers
from one of the mills to Mrs. D. K.
"Warren's ranch. He drove along the.
wharf, passed Warren's Hall and then'
turned to cross disused bridge lead
ing to the outbuildings on the War
ren farm. When he was about half
way over the bridge, the woodwork un
expectedly gave way, Hardle, load and
team dropped Into the water. Fortu
nately the tide was not high, or else
the whole outfit, would have been
thoroughly immersed. A number of
Jit en who were leaving the mills, ob
served the accident and they Imme
diately ran to Hardle's assistance. The
horses were hemmed In between the
wagon and the "frame work of the
the bridge. After considerable dif
ficulty they were unharnessed, the ob
structing frame work sawed away and
the animals managed to struggle
through the water and mud to terra
ftrma. The tongue of the wagon and
a portion of the harness was damaged
but luckily both Hardle and his team
suffered nothing worse than the duck

wound out Its deferred business mat
ters, in the following order:

the same was accepted by the court,
which Immediately proceeded to nom
nlate and elect his successor, the two
candidates named being Drs. Pllklng
ton and Mohn, the result of the ballot
falling to Dr. Mohn. The salary is
merely $10 per month.
The court then took up the matter
of the application of the AV. W. John
son Lumbering Company, for permis
sion to cross the county roads with a
logging railway; and the petition was
granted-nnd the bond filed In that be
half, was approved.
It was ordered by the court that the
clerk draw and forward to the state
department at Salem, a warrant cov
ering the first half of the state tax.

ering the whole of the Agricultural
College tax, due from this county.

vison, in the matter of the construction
of a small county bridge over a stream
near yie county line of Tillamook, was
taken up, considered, and allowed In
the sum of $5.00.
The court then adjourned until the
first Wednesday In May, which, l his
time comes on the first day of the
month.
