BOARD OF EQUALIZATION. Will Meet This Afternoon Over .Im provement of Columbia Avenue. The Astoria Board of Equalization will meet today to receive objections to the assessment made to Improve Co lumbla avenue from Bond street to Tay lor Avenue. This Is the first assess ment made under the recent amend ment, to, the city charter and will be the foundation for a lawsuit to test the legality of these amendments, which has been questioned because of the fact that thy were madeby popu lar vote without provision having been made by the state legislature as to the mcr Of YOtlafr The asHessments are upon property ownfd by the Acme Grocery and Dairy Company and by Alex. Hakvlst, one of whom will file a protest against It. This wll be disregarded by the board of equalization, who will report In fa vor of confirming the assessment to the common council. When the common council confirms the assessment the suit will begin to test its legality.
