Therefore, It's the best place on earth! New Dancing Club A new dancing school was formed at Kearney's hall Inst night. The officers are: J. Leahy, president; W. Paulson, treasurer; A. Nelson, secretary; and Fred J. Brown, teacher. The first public dance will be given Saturday, Feb. 16. After that date Instruction will be given on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays of each week. Firat Official Viiit The night Rev. Charles Hcaddlng, D. I)., Bishop of Or egon, will make his first official visit ation to Grace church parish and to the mission of Holy Innocents today. He will arrive on the noon train and confer with the chapel guild and ves try at 3:30. The Apostolic rite of con firmation will bo administered at Grace church in the evening at 7:30 o'clock, at which time the bishop will preach. The community generally U cordially Invited to be present at this service. The bishop has Identified himself with Oregon's Interests, so he Is Interested In Astoria, The bishop expects to return to Portland on Sat urday morning. Restored to Liberty Yesterday noon Sheriff M. It. Pomeroy gave the free dom of the city, county and state to Olaf Peterson, tho ex-dog-catcher, of Astoria, who, by reason of his predis position to drink and dope, has been a prison charge on the county since the 3rd of last August. Peterson wa fitted out 'wlh new garments from head to foot and wax handed a bunch of clllclal admonitions which It will stand him In hand to observe with some good faith, unless he wants lo change his habitat to the long-sua-tained confinement awaiting him ' at the Oregon anylum for the insane. Want Re-lmburement Frank Spittle, the attorney, was before the county court yesterday contending for the claim of Patrick Lawlor, of Sea side, for re-lmbursement In the sum of (500, paid for certain property bought by him at the late tax sale, and which, It appears, should not have been Included in the list. Deputy Dis trict Attorney J. A. Kakln represented the county and the issue was still under argument at the hour of ad journment. Henry Laxell Buried The funeral of the late Henry Lxpl! occurred yes terday afternoon under the auspices of the Astoria aerie of Eagles. Inter ment was at Greenwood cemetery. Uov. (J. E. Rydqulst, pastor of the First Lutheran church, conducted the services. Water Rates Due Today and to morrow are tho last days on which water rates can be paid without the L'5 cents delinquent charge, Sunday being the 10th, and therefore exclu sive. Hiah School .Benefit The Astoria 'Ugh School gao a successful social last evening at the A. O. U. W. hall for the benefit of the track team. The hall was filled past its seating capa city with auditors of the excellent musical program rendered. A dance followed nnd was thoroughly enjoyed.
