With Ppeaker Cannon and other an-tl-rvlHonlata In town, "Standpatlam" ha reared up Ita head and la auppoxed to be arrogant Tho attitude of the various Congressman baa been that of waiting to see In what direction the cat would Jump. If revision senti ment nromlned to prevail, he was ready to ba a rampant revisionist. If It appeared that the standpatters were secure In the saddle, he was Just Nas anxloua to stand pat. Now that the word hna gone forth that the tar iff ahnll ,not be touched until after the presidential election, Mr. Average Congressman flnda that tho program exartly meet hla views. In aplte of the demand for revlnlon In aome normally Republican States Republican leader do not Interpret tho recent State and Con,rresanlonni contests as Indicating nnythlng like a general desire for changes to the Dlngley law, and they are willing to let It go at that. If, thoy say, It were possible to make a few reductions at a special session to be called after the Fifty-ninth Congress ends, and to do nothing more, thoy favor the call- in of such a seimioii. But tholr idea Is that if the tariff Is touched at all Sixty-first Congress If It Is retained In power, and If deemed necessary, to make a definite promise to tnni erteci In the platform to be framed In the platform of 1908. The more extreme stand-pactors, however, see no necessity for doing even that. Few of either classes are willing to talk until after they have seen the President and Informed them selves more thoroughly concerning the general situation. , BRAZILIAN COFFEE.
