The fea ture of the opening session of the twenty-sixth convention of the Amer lean Federation of Labor today was the exhaustive annual report of Pres ident Samuel Gompers, in which he detailed the progress of the labor movement throughout tha United States and laying especial stress on the advent of unionism In the polit ical arena and recommending that this course be strictly adhered to in every state in the union. A strong plea was made for the employment of union labor on the Panama canal.
