Miss Parkenin. the Finnish voung lady who has un dergone two serious operations during the past four weeks, is convalescing rapidly and expects soon to leave for her home. Mr. Richling, the popular clerk of the Hotel Moore, at Seaside, who came here to be treated for ty phoid fever, is almost well and win De out soon. Hon. Herman Wise is due to arrive home from the Bay City on tonight's express from Portland. . Police Court Items There was not much doing in Judge Anderson's juris diction yesterday, one drunk paying a fine of $5.00; another going to the cells to sleep the sleep of the man who will pay for it all today; and the for feiture of the usual $25 . from a sport who failed to appear and answer the charge of gambling. This was the lim it of police prosecutions yesterday. Of ficer John Stark is the next , on the police roster to take his annual vaca tion of twenty days, and it is rumored that he departed last evening for St. Martin's springs, to enjoy the waters for a while. Dead at Nasel John H. Wirkkala died at his home in Nasel, Wash., on Monday, September 24, 1008, of pneu monia, aged CS years. Mr. Wirkkala is a native of Finland, coming to America a number of years ago. He has resided at Nasel for a long time, where he was engaged in logging and farming pursuits. He leaves a brother, Charles Wirkkala. proprietor of the Louvre saloon, of this city, and five children, all of whom are grown. His wife preceded him to the grave a few years ago. The funeral was held yes terday from the home of the deceased, and his remains were laid to rest in the local cemetery there. THE ASTORIA BAR. Important Suit Filed At 4 s o'clock yesterday afternoon an important suit was filed in the circuit court in and for Clatsop county, by Messrs. J. H. & A. M. Smith, attorneys for plaintiff, in which the Marblehead Savings Bank of Marblehead, Mass., sues the Flavel Company and the following co-defendants: Thomas Ingalls, John B. Ingalls, Samuel H. Brown, Benjamin J. Lindsey, L. Harris, Sigmund Sichel, the Or-gon Pine Lumber Company, and Messrs. Oneal & Drew, for the full and final sum of $30,000. Association of Local Lawyers Holds a Pleasant Session. Last evening the Bar Association of this city held its Tegular monthly meet ing in the office of A. M. Smith. It beinc the last meeting of the year, the following officers were unanimously re-elected: President Hon. Frank J. Taylor. Vice-President George Noland. Secretary-A. M. Smith. Upon recommendation of Harrison Allen, Howard M. Brownell and John W. McCue, were admitted to member shin and Hon. Thomas A. McBvide was unanimously elected an honorary mem ber of the association. Many needed changes in the schedule of fees were made and to effect these alterations a committee of three, consisting of Har rison Allen, C. G. Fulton and Chas. ll. Abercrombie was appointed. The meeting was attended by all the lawyers of the city and its sessions will be held regularly hereafter on the last Tuesday of every,' month. In. .
