Said to be Craxy About two weeks
! ajo a sturdy young fellow by the name
oT Henry A. Hendrickon, applied for
work at the Tongue Point mill and
wa immediately taken on the roll. He
ha worked just four day since, and
put in the rest of the time, appar
ently, in keeping the neighborhood in a
state of fearsome agitation the rest
of the time, with hi alleged inaae ac
tions. A harry call was sent in to the
berifT office yesterday about 3 o'clock
for afistance, and Mr. Pemeroy and
Deputy Sheriff McLean went out to in
vestigate the affair. They found the
man, who proved to be about 30 year
of age, and his actions, while not vio
lent or threatening, were of a sort to
warrant them in landing him here for
safe-keeping. He will be examined to
day by Dr. J. A. Fulton and Judge C.
J. Trenchard.
An Endles Record The records of
American citizenship are never allowed
to stand still in Astoria. If the little
native does not offer an item in this
behalf daily, there are always the ea
ger foreigners to keep the chronicle go
ing. Yesterday County Clerk Clinton
filed the declarations of intention of
Erail Hill and Matti Maki, of Finland,
to this honorable end.
PLAN NEW BANK.
Milwaukee Avenue National Bank Will
Hare Successor.
CHICAGO, Sept. 20. From the ruins
of the Milwaukee Avenue National
Bank will arise in the near future a
new bank, which James B. rorgan, who
is to be chairman of the board of di
rectors, declared yesterday would oe
"absolutely unique in this country."
It will be modeled on the Canadian
or so-called Scotch-English plan, which
eliminates the president of the bank
from the role of "the all-powerful one"
that American tradition and practice
make him. In other words, the presi
dent of the ne wbank will be subject
at all times to the authority of the
directorate's chairman. He will work
under a system that will insure con
formity to the principles of sound bank
ing. Jlla methods of doing business will
be scrutinized daily by Chairman For
gan. Little or no restriction will be placed
upon hi authority to initiate measures
for obtainirg and transacting business.
But after he has done the business
his reports will have to be submitted
in detail every day to Mr. Forgan, who,
if he discovers that imprudent measures
are being followed, will immediately call
a halt.
