The beautiful bay of Astoria was one
long blur all of yesterday. The clouds
swung low and gloomy over the whole
coast line, and fog and mist and rain
drifted athwart the bay and city al
most without interruption, from morning
till niirht. It was a veritable winter
day, as far as appearances went, and
was such, except for the warmth of tne
season. The fishing fleet was out, but
could be seen only at intervals, and then
passed into the film of fog and sweeping
rain. For a June day, it was a revela
tjion and was commented on at all
noints, and with disagreeable surpns
by the oldest of Astoria's people. It is
honed but few such days are in store
for the coast people, for a week of such
weather will bring on an epidemic of
the Memnition bugs."
