6- THE MORNING ASTORIAN, ASTORIA, OREGON. SATURDAY, JUNE ij, . t , fa, ftotk Haa4a. Tint people should learn to use both bunds with equal freedom Is a matter of great Important. If when, the right band of a workman Is tired he ran continue his task with the left, then It k obvious that he will get through more work than a right handed man. In the boys' mechanical department In the German schools much of the work la done by the left hand under compulsion. The boys are taught to aw, plane and hammer with the left hand as well as the right. The scholar la also taught to draw large circlet en the blackboard, first with one hand and then with the other. Mas Is the only one who cannot use all his limbs with equal facility. Men uses his eyes equally well and also the legs, ex cept that most people kick with the light foot. But how few can use mow than one hand to advantage? And this Is so simply because of lack of early training. At Exeentloa. Sir Werayss field wrote as follows 01 one of his early exierlenees as a ro porter: "On the first occasion of wit nessing an execution, as I stood treiu bling at the foot of the scaffold on which the victim was about to npiear, I noticed an old reporter for whom 1 entertained a great persona! resist pacing up and down beside me rw.llnp. the new testament. "In the passion of horror and pity ttat Oiled my young heart 1 conclude' that my friend was seeking Rpiritu.il comfort In view of the event In which we were about to take part as specta tors and recorders. I said sotnettins to him about the horror of the act we were shortly to witness, "He looked up with a placid smile from his reading and said gently, for he was essentially a gentleman, Tes, very tad, very sad; but let us be thankful It Isn't raining.' And then he calmly re turned to bis dally reading of U word." ooooooooooooooooocoooooooooooooo 111 u i PROFESSIONAL CARDi.
