VERGING UPON THE HOUR.
There i infinite satisfaction to the
major voters that every vote cast will
be approving evidence of the merit ami
measure of the men that stand for the
republican party ami it principles ev
erywhere in the state ami the larger tlie
gross majority, the ampler the cmloie
ment conceded.
There is no single attribute offered by
the democracy, that for a moment, ean
constitute an allurement from the
straight and solid vote of the republi
cans; not even the personality of the
leader of the opposition, one the strong
est factor in warping voters from the
party that for year and years has
swayed the destinies of Oregon; it i
all plain and honest and simple work
for the republican now; no impedi
ments, no doubts, no factions: the peo
ple have named an invproaehabl group
of men for office, and the people will
deliU-nttely proceed to install them to
morrow, with a unanimity and a vote
that shall intrench the republican party
in power, for the abundant future good
of the state and the country.

A man was found drowned in one
foot of water near Santa Crtu. Cali
fornia. He must have been in it up to
bis neck, however.
The hour of republican triumph in
the State of Oregon draws nigh, and as
the time lessens the prospects brighten
to the point that presages certainty. The
state is again to take on the administra
tion of her dominant party, and under
the faithful, competent and honorable
executive care of as good a Bet of men
as were ever named for office since the
days of her initiation among the commonwealths.
The man. or group of men. whoever
they may be. whatever their sentiments
Doliticallv, who ar asserting that the
republican nominees of the republican
party in Clatsop county, are the repre
sentatives of a republican, or any other,
RING, are lying, and they know they
are lying. This county has never had a
cleaner nor more capable set of men
before it for electoral choice than the
men sent up by the republican citizenry
of Clatsop county from the primaries
for the several office within her gut
There is not a bar sinister against the
name nor private, nor public, record of a
single man of them; they are the equals
and peers of any man that has been
thrust forward from any of the various
and star-chambered conventions of the
"citizens" or democrats, or other politi
cal pot pourries that have transpired in
this city and county this spring; and
the votes cast for these men, from Mr.
Schofield to Mr. Sayre, will suffer noth
ing of negation, of waste, nor of re
proach, by whomsoever cast. A lie is
always a lie; nothing ean amend it, eon
done it, palliate it, justify it, nor nail
it, save the open truth, and we aver the
truth of the statements here and now-
made, the lie, liar, and lairs, to the con
trary notwithstanding.

TOMORROW.
Tomorrow means much for the people
of Oregon and of Clatsop county; tomor
row holds the destinies of many men;
tomorrow will witness the triumph, and
the defeat, of one of the two great po
litical parties of the state; tomorrow (s
the day for the exercise of the best and
greatest of American franchises, and the
duty of the day demands that the
supreme good of the state and county
shall be first considered, and then or-
Haind hv tbp neonle themselves. There
. 1 1
are countless "tomorrows," but tomor
row is peculiarly significant, and alive
with good and wholesome fruiti that
shall fall to the wise and conscientious
electors, if wisdom and conscience but
dictate the generous success of the re
publican movement now afoot; the mere
election of a democratic governor in the
midst of all other republican successes, '
would but be a traversty and extend tne
confusion and insecurity that has mark
ed the preceding four year. Tomorrow
is the day for the curing of every ill and
the ousting of every element of discord
and every incongruity from the midst
of the commanding electorate of Oregon,
and to this high end and large purpose,
the thought, influence, and votes of re
publican Oregon will be directed TO

BULL FIGHTING IN SPAIN.
Spain is still a great country for bull
fights. The season starts on the first
Sunday after Lent and continues with
a short interruption at the height of
summer till the month of October.
Seville and Madrid are the great centers
of tauromaehia. In Spain no bull leaves
the ring alive; neither do any of the
horses. The expense of supplying even
the poor hacks which are chosen is enor
mous, and in some poverty-stricken
townships horses are omitted from the
performance when the corrida becomes a
good deal more palatable to the stranger,
though less so to the native. O'Shea
states that 2400 bulls are killed annually
and 3500 horses. T. P.'s Weekly.

House's Action Will be Conveyed to
Senate by Burrows.
WASHINGTON, June 1. Just before
the committee on privileges and elec
tions adjourned afer taking action in
the stnoot case, Senator Bcveridge mov
ed that Chairman Burrows be instructed
to immediately inform the Senate of the
action and to request that a day be fixed
for a vote at the present session. This
motion was carried. Chairman Burrows
did not give notice to the Senate today,
contrary to the belief of the members
of the committee. It is now expected to
make the announcement tomorrow and
ask that a day be fixed to vote, for
members of the Senate who have con
sidered the action of the committee, and
are not agreed on the meaning of the
resolution declaring that Smoot is not
entitled to his seat. Chairman Burrows
will draw up the report stating the ac
tion of the committee. This will set
forth the adoption of the Du Bois reso
luion and the votes had on the motion
to declare Smoot's seat vacant and to
expel him, both of which failed of
adoption.
