For the part few week number of j
periods have been receiving threaten
ing communication, in which not only
the recipient was insulted, but the lang
.age employed positively indecent,
bowing that whoever the author n,
he wa in need of radical reform, hint
elf. The letter and petition receiv
ed by the police commission signed
with the name of prominent people
in town, have been found to be all
forgeries, and not written by the per
eena whose name were affixed to them.
Yesterday a number of people in the
city received anonymous letter, mak
ing dire threat of vengoam unlcs
they ceased doing certain things, which
the writer d.eraed contrary to hi prin
tipcb erf ethic. When seen y-terday

over tb city -were receiving letter of

one sent through the mails to Charley
Wise, warning him that hi mode of liv

against the police force with the com
mission, and the request made by the

of Polk Hallock said that all of the
complaint were forgeries, and untrue
also.. "I intend to demand an investi
gation of these charges," said he. "and
