Yesterday afternoon the Commercial defeated the West Astorias at football by a score of 14 to 0. The game as expected was one sided in that Commer cial had everything their own way, but the stubborn defense put up by the Wet Astorias kept the score down materially. In the flrxt balf Commercial resorted entirely to punting and forced West As toria to kick on every third down. Can son, who did the kicking for West As toria surprised everyone by hi pretty work, getting bis kicks away quickly lor 33 and 45 yeairds. Commercial scored in this half when fainter fell on the ball behind West Astoria's goal line af ter a fumble. Tully kicked the goal making the score 6 for Commercial. The second half was featureless on the part of the Commercial, though their team work, weight and speed wa irr-atibl. West Astoria could not withstand the fierce attacks and their line was crumbled and fell away, but the voungsters were there with goods and fireely contested every yard. Com mercial succeeded in scoring twice, nei ther touchdown being converted into a goal, making the final score 10 to 0. For West Astoria, MeConron. at right end played a btar game. Carlson, Stine and Marion also played exceptionally well; but the tackling of Junch, West Astoria's quarter wa the particular bright feature of the gam. Needless to say the whole Commercial team played very fine football, but not Minard Tullv Utll.'IM (rllllllllU tl'apll Ia inter Wair OUiiial Wat-on cre., ti. II. tHih-r. ,1-T Mine .U.K. .. .. ASTORIA'S RELIABLE CLOTHIER n f - - I TWO GOLD MEDALvS AWARDED THE MONARCH At the Lewis and Clark Exposition m ia sm aeaesssw if 1 ' J Two Gold Medals awarded the Monarch at the Lewis and Clark Exposition, the first and only time this range was ever shown at any exposition. No grand prizes were offered, but the Jury o.a?tcyes and Ranges voluntarily manifested their high esteem of the -Monarch Range by writing the letter leproduced here. Several gold medals were awarded different Range and Stove manu facturers for various things the Monarch received two. But it remains for the Monarch alone to receive the unqualified endorse ment of the Jury, as is evidenced by this letter. mrL,m ' Hiii - i,, PI Division or t xMiarrs. , -.HIIWHBMfilHiMWIt fmutr II T- tMtw s 'i i w-vafl tnMHH ft 0"L AONMiiinAriM lios . No other Range or Stove exhibit ed was, in the opinion of the Jury equal to the Monarch. Pages of matter in praise of this Range could not speak as convinc ingly as does this letter, written by men of undisputed judgment and knowledge.
