TEACHERS' EXAMINATIONS.
. Unfortunately, indeed, i the beach

Rustic cottage Monday night in honor
of Miss Lela Ooddard. The cottage was
decorated with Japanese lanterns and
the Chinese game of fan-tan wa played.

tendance and to supply the deficiency
half of them wore men's suits and the
others appeared in their bathing suit.
Mrs. Schacht kindly furnished music for
the dancing and the ladies in the house

A party was given at The Rreakers
Monday night which created more mer
riment than any previous affair of the
season. Those taking part appeared in
the most ridiculous attire they could
possibly obtain. Kvery variety of
tume from the most pronounced type of
hayseed to the 20th century belle, and
from grandparents to very small in
fants, was represented. Dancing was
carried on with great enthusiasm and
punch waa served during the evening,
, The eeeond delegation of Juvenile
court wards arrived from lWtland last
Saturday night and went into camp at
Tlie Itock, near Seaview. They are the
kind of youngsters who easily adapt
themselves to any conditions, and arc
making the most of their ten days' allot
ment. Bathing in the surf, performing
marvelous acrolmtk feats in the sand.
climbing nearby trees, assisting in the
cooking and many other diversions, till
every day to the brim with pleasureable
excitement. Their daily fare, which is
plentiful ami wholesome, is supplement
ed with gifts of watermelons, oranges,
ptache and other dainties dear to the
liearts of hungry boys. William tira
ham, who owns some fishtraps at llwaco,
supplies the camp with freR fish every
day. He also took the loys for a trip
in hi steam lauueh. Mrs. 11. YY. Cor
bett sent conveyances to take them for
a delightful ride on 'the beach." Sev
eral plana have been made for their
entertainment by the charitably dis
pell people in the vicinity. One more
encampment wjll follow this one. The
boys who compose the present section

There were 24 applicant for teachers'
certificates at the school examinations
beUl thia week and which closed last
evening. Of thia number 17 were for
county certificates and seven for state
certificates, three of the latter being
from Portland. After examining the
papers of the applicants, certificates
were granted to the following persons:
