The structure is 90X200 feet and will cost in the neighborhood of $2000, It is being hur ried toward 'Completion as rapidly as possible and will be ready for occupancy this season. "Seaside is taking on the appearance of a busy city. Nearly all the cottages are occupied and business men make very encouraging reports. One business mail said: 4fWe have done more business this season, up to the present time, than we did all last season. Leggelt arrived here today from Astoria with a log raft in tow. The raft is "SO feet in length, 53 feet wide and draws 23 feet of water. It contains tl.000,000 feet of lumber. Five days and a half were required for the voyage. Be sides the raft, the Francis 11. Leggett brought over a million feet of lumU-r or San Pedro. BAY PIRATES RIFLE SKIP. San Francisco, July 20. Captain H. C. Davidson was robbed of all his money, watch, and jewelry, the thieve entering his stateroom and going through all his effects. SHIPPING NOTES. Steamer Northland arrived down yes terday with a cargo of lumber for San Francisco. Government steamer Arsgo left out yesterday for southern Oregon where she will make soundings in varim harliors. Steamer Aberdeen arrived in yester day from San Francisco with ecr;il passengers for this city. Th Aberdeen then left for Gray's harbor where she will load lumber. Oil tank Steamer Loonns arrived in yesterday from San Francisco and aft er discharging a part of her cargo of crude oil at the Standard Oil company's tanks here, proceeded to Portland. British bark Duncraig arrived in yes terday from Honolulu after an unevent ful passage of 20 day. She will pro ceed to Manila from I'ort'and with a load of lumber for the Pacific Coast Lumber company. CIVIC CONFERENCE. Delegates Wanted From Astoria t-At-tend State Civic Convention. Charles Higgins, secretary of the Cham ber of Commerce, is in receipt of a let ter from the State Civic association, re questing the mayor to appoint two dele gates to a conference to lie held in Port land commencing August 14. Mayor Siirprenant has not been able to secure anyone to attend and is di--irous of re ceiving volunteers, whom lie will gladly aiimiint. The following is the text of the letter: ''Will you see the mayor of your city at your earlient possible convenience, and urge upon him the importance of his immediate, attention to the appoint ment of delegates from your city to the Civic Conference nnd Convention of Cities to be held in Port hind, August 14 to 19, under the auspices of the expo sition? I have already coniiiitmieatcd with the maor of your city ollicially, but have not yet received a reply from him.
