last night by the discharge of a
pistol or other explosive. The
child was standing in a crowd on

ing profusely from a wound in
the back of her head and her

Contract With Pittsburj Company For
A Million Tons.
New York, July a.-The Fittsburg
Steel company has dosed a contract for
the delivery of one million tons of bil
iets to the United States Steel Corpor
ation. It is understood that thi con
tract, the largest of the kind ever plac
ed, involving about 23,OUO,0O0, is on
a sliding scale basis. The Pittsburg
Steel company, as a result of the favor
able contract with the steel corporation
will now abandon its plans for the erec
tion of steel works at Mouessen.
It was a contract between the Pitts
burg Steel company and the Republic
Stwl and Iron company for billets about
a year ago, it will be remembered, w hich
nearly disrupted the steel billet pool
It is said that the Republic company ha
declined an offer from the steel cor
poration of part of the contract of sup
plying the million ton of billets.
