ADVOCATE IMPROVEMENT
OF EIGHTH STREET
Property Owner, WUh to Build Strtet
la Bad Condition.
Mr. A. II. Datgity appeared before the
Common Council Monday night to org
the Importance of improving Eighth
street, from Franklin avenue over the
hill to Young'a Bay. The city eurreyor
had previously made an estimate of the
cost on the Improvement and reported
to the Common Council that, owing to
the low valuation of the property, it
would not stand the tost of the Improve
ment. The street was improved In IMS at a
cost of .0,2.4. Of this amount 1,453
was paid In installment and bond is
sued therefore and 1, 703.30 was paid by
the city out of the general fund. Most
of the property owners paid for the Im
provement, but there still remain $1,
183.02 due from proerty owner and up
on which there Is penalty and interest
amounting to about ftoO.OO.
While the street is In an impassable
condition, and should be Improved, yet
the city, having reached it limit of In
debtedness, and the low valuation of the
proierty, render it impossible to make
the improvement at this time. There
are several owner of projierty who de
sire to build, but are unable to do so
on account of the condition of the street.
