TEAMSTERS ARE OBSTINATE They Advocate Arbitration but are Un willing to Sumbit Their Differences to Arbitration and the Truck Drivers Threaten to Strike. -1 Commercial Street. SPECIAL I Todar and Tomorrow CHILDREN'S HATS 48 CENTS Chicago, June ".Peace prospect in the steamsters' strike took a new lease of life today, the Teamsters Joint Coun' il having agreed to accept the euv plovers' conditions for another confer' ence. The action was taken in the absence of President Shea. Levy Jl'iyer, attorney for the merch ants, was notified that a committee pos sessing plenary jHwers, was ready tf meet a similar committee of employers. It was believed the employers would consent to a conference possibly today on that basis. President Walter J. Oiblnms, of the Teamsters' Council, named the strikers representatives. On the committee are members of every union now affected by the strike including the express driv evs. The revival of peace hope, it was ex pected, would postpone for the time be ing at least, the impending crisis be tween the team owners and the truck drivers. The union had voted unani mously to reject the arbitration pro posal of the owners While the action of the truck drivers was a shock to the team owners, it was not considered probable, in the light of the other developments, that they would make a move at once to lock out the 8,(100 drivers iu their employ. Afy-r a conference lusting five hours between the employers association and the committee from the teamsters joint council, with full power to settle the strike, all negotiations were culled off tonight and there is no immediate prob ability of a settlement. .There is a faint possibility that the conference will be resumed tomorrow, but unless radical change is made in tlie position of oni side or the other tliere is no prospect of a settlement of the strike.
