The public are awaiting with anxious expectancy the new program that will 1? arranged for the Star theater. The attraction offered will make the program double it present size, and by so doing an op port unity i offered of securing the high' er class of artist not procured in theaters where only a short program is rendered. The expense attending the change will be considerable, but Manager Orvurts i satisfied that the public are willing to pay what an entertainment is worth, as they will receive in one night that which ordinarily ha been produced on two separate nights, so that there will lie really no difference in the price of admissioli. There are those who travel frequently and appreciate comforts, while others may be found occasionally who consider exhorbitant what the experienced trav eler, under like circumstances, will deem fair. In Portland, many of the first- clas rooming houses sr favored at the the present time with the over-flow travel which, under ordinary circum stances, could go to the firat-class hotels. The Calumet, located at Serenth and Alder streets, Portland, is one of these establishments. Mrs. L. E. Hamilton hoste of the Calument, stated on Mon day that her house had a growing pat ronage of regular Portland visitors who. during the fair, pay no extra charges for their rooms, while at the same time a number of regular patrons of leading hotels who arrive without notice and can not find quarters, are frequently ac commodated at The Calumet at regular price. It is true however that they have a number of large rooms, containing two double beds, for whk-h they get from four persons 11.00 each, or $4,00 for the room. As many people travel to the fair in group of four, these rooms are considered by them extraordinarily reasonable. Occasionally an individual traveler wants one of these rooms, while other are anxiously waiting for it also. In these cases they get $3.00 from the one person who appreciate such elegant accommodation. Mr. Crowell, the pop ular manager of The Calumet, says that they also have another bouse, at which they can. lodge travelers at $1.30 a day in very comfortable, but not as modern rooms. At The Calumet rooms are gen erally from $2 upwards per day, with the exception of a few. $1.50 rooms, which, however, go before the day is far advanced. All the rooms at this estab lishment are absolutely modern, and a first-class dining room which is ele gantly equipped, i maintained on the ground floor, where regular seven course dinners, equal to the best in the land, are served at SO cents.
