The culmination ot the trial of the TTnlontown cases resulting 'n a ver dict of guilty, meets with the general aoDroval of the public. As is usual In such cases, there was more or less of a political sentiment entered Into the controversy, and some attorneys who were back of the saloon men, did not fieure mibllcly in the result, but the people of Unlontown are satisfied no to who are their friends. As to tne merits of the case it simply resolves itself down to. the proposition, whether saloons shall be allowed to exist in the residence portions of the city. In 0 far as it allows the voters to decide this ouestion in residence districts the Astorlan favors the local option law. It does not believe, however, that it should be adopted throughout the city, as to do so would simply be to transfer the selling of liquors from tne saloons In private clubs, drug stores and "blind pigs."
