Hod the democrats agreed to the proposition submitted to them to declare the office of Barker and Cook vacant and appoint one democrat and one republican, which the mayor agreed to do and the coun cil agreed to confirm, thera would have been no Tuttle charter bill, but the leaders of the democrats refused to do - thla and are responsible for the feeling that has been engendered.. The tlm for vetoing the bill will expire next Tuesday. As soon as the veto mes sage Is presented to the senate wher the bill orlKlnnted. Immediate action will be' taken. It then goes to the house and If passed over the governor's veto becomes a law. Mayor Surpren ant and Attorney Smith went to Sa lem "and will no doubt bring sufficient pressure to bear on the governor to have him veto the bill. .The legisla ture is strongly republican and.
