The tank steamer "Whlttler arrived down from Portland yesterday and left out for San Francisco light. The barkentlne El Dorado started down from Portland yesterday and will probably go to sea today. She has a load of lumber. The Zampa, a three-master. Is In port for a load of lumber. The revenue cutter Perry arrived In yesterday after a long search for the Melville Dollar which limped Into Seat tle a few minutes after the Perry was directed to set out In search of her The navigation officer of the Perry says they stood out to sea about 75 miles and then sis-sagged in and out between Tillamook rock and Vancoucer Island without, however, finding any trace of their chase. On aciount of the hard trip the Perry had the officers were somewhat disgusted when they learned how close a margin there was between the Melville's arrival and the Perry's departure. Entertainments and Partiea in Astoria Society for the Past Week. Mr. and Mrs. Gt-orge H. George heve returned from a pleasure trip to Seattle. Thos. U. J. Pye and children have re turned from an extended visit to ''ali- fornia. Mr. and Mrs. T. Leahy are expected to return from their wedding trip to Seattle today. Mr. and Mrs. II. Q. Van Dusen will entertain the Pioneer Euchre Club next Friday evening. Mrs. Arthur A. Finch was the enter tainer of the young ladles whist club on Monday afternoon. j Mr. and Mrs. George II. George were the entertainers of the Bridge Whist club on Thursday evening. The ladles of the Friday afternoon club were entertained by Mrs. P. L Cherry yesterday afternoon.
