Stoessel did not lose Port Arthur; it was lost by the Russian Fleet, for it seems that however bravely the Army fought, the Navy was very poorly handled. John Cahill of Vesper was in the city yesterday in attendance on the county lourt. W. T. Scholfleld has returned from a ffeit to friends and relatives at Cor nelius. Chas. Campbell and wife left last ight for a month's visit to southern California. John Harry went to Portland last evening on a business trip. He will return Sunday. Miss Edith Butts returned from Port land yesterday, where she visited for a week in the family of Capt. and Mrs. Hacket of that city. Mrs. Kills, agent of the A. & C. at Seaside left yesterday for California to be absent about two months. Dur ing her absence J. Stanton will act as agent. H. C.
