Obscured by Unprecedented Fog,
Traffic Stopped.
London, Dec. 22. As yet there is no
sign of the fog lifting that has en
veloped the kingdom for two days. The
absence of wind throughout Great
Britain Is almost unprecedented, and
mjeterologists do not anticipate a
change for 24 hours. The congestion
o traffic and the suspension of busi
ness is general, and railway traffic is
paralized.
Places of amusement are deserted,
and shopkeepers see ruin in the lack
of 'Christmas buyers.

Jim's Bost Anchors.
Victoria, Dec. 22. The- steamer Min
nesota, which arrived today from New
London to enter the oriental trade for
the Great Northern railway, was
obliged to go to anchor at Esqulmalt,
owing to a heavy gale. The reception
by the local board of trade and other
corporations was abandoned in conse
quence of the storm.
