Stands High With tho Administration Officials. From dispatches received from Washington, Senator Fulton Is rapidly rising on the ladder of fume, and has more Influence with tho president and high officials than many older' sena tors. This will be a grand thing for Oregon, as It places him In a position to secure more and larger appropria tions for our rivers and harbors. It will make him an Invaluable member of congress, winning for him the aj mlratlon of everyone In Oregon Irre spective of party Affiliations. In speak ing of Senator Fulton. Chairman t'ortelyou spoke In the highest terms of the manner In which the Oregon campaign had been handled, and was particularly loud In his praises of the conduct of the June campaign, which, he said, had such a good effect In the national campaign in the fall. He placed particular streas upon the splendid work of Senator Fulton, whose speeches stood out prominently as a striking feature of the campaign In Oregon and In other states where the Senator spoke. Vice President-elect Fairbanks not only commended Mr. Baker, but was lavish In his praise of Senator Fulton, and most grateful for his assistance on the tour which extended through Ore gon. California, Utah and Wyoming and was anxious to assure Mr. Baker that much of the success of that tour was due to Senator Fulton. END NOT YET. (Continued from Page 1.) and thnt Puter went Into the good graces of the commissioner with the Indorsement at the hands of the sen ator of being one of the best men In Oregon. This, the testimony went on to show, was by letter from a promt- nent Portland attorney. There are those who profess to believe that Sen ator Mitchell needed no Introduction to Puter, and also that Hermann had known him for a long time. In defense of the senator, It Is ob served by his friends that It is not to be supposed that this necessarily Im plicates him with any fraud, for the reason that he was simply acting the part of an ambassador for one of his constituency. It would not be at all surprising to many who have followed the long and persistent prosecution of hind frauds If the government officials were to go after big game, even though that should be'a U'ted States senator and representative In congress. It was one of the strong points of Special Prose cutor Heney address to the Jury, at the recent trial, that the government Is on the track of all who have been guilty of fraudulent tampering with the public domain, and that if It were pos sible through the prosecutions then under way to ascertain th Identity of others, higher In station and wealthy, that they should certainly be prosecut ed and that to .the limit. There Is also believed to be signifi cance In his statement at the time th pending csst-s were deferred, to the effect that he had Important mutters to lay before the grand Jury. This, coupled with the sudden starting west of Heiiator Mitchell and Hermann, has done nothing, If It has not caused tho public to become agog with expect ancy, Inasmuch as It Is clearly stated In tho dispatches that prlvaU advices havo warned tho solona that there U danger In the air and high time for them to be hero and make a defense. Dowle Lying Again. Chicago, Dc 19. Before a congre gation of nearly 6000 people, John Alex ander Dowle has declared that the as sets of Zlon were $50,000,000 and of this sum 121,000,000 was In Zlon City. He said that tho total Indebtedness was less than 1500,000 and most of that was to members of tho church. FOR MARINERS. Lighthouse Buoy at San Pablo Bay Hss Been Replaced.
