Promise of Dividend to Be Declared

New York, Oct. 22. Negotiations
for the sale of a majority of the capi
tal stock of the New York. Ontario &
Western to the New York, Nuw Haven
& Hartford railroad have been prac
tically concluded, according to the
World, which says:
"At a meeting of the directors of
the former system, to be held In this
city November 9, they wjll be given an
opportunity to accept an offer which
has been made through President Mel
len, on behalf of the New York. New
Haven & Hartford stockholders. Ne
gotiations for the New York, Ontario
& Hartford have been conducted by

Fallbrook. ated 87 years, a white

Co., who control 275,000 share of the
stock. The minority stockholders, who
have been represented by a committee
headed by James B. Clews, of the bank
ing house of Henry Clews & Co., are
stated to have assented to the pro
posal, which Is a sale outright of the
assenting stock at 45, or a guarantee
of two and one-half per cent In divi
dends. "When the minority committee be
gan its campaign to abolish the vot
Ing trust it became necessary for the
management to call in the services of
Kuhn, Loeb & Co., to save the con
trol. This was done through the pur
chase of 275,000 shares, it is under
stood. At the ensuing meeting some
weeks ago, stockholders were present
ed with plane for terminating the
voting trust which controlled the prop
erty. TheBe were predicated on the
acceptance by the stockholders of a
new financial scheme, Involving the
flotation of $10,000,000 in bonda, and
the promise of a declaration at the
meeting November 9 of a three per
cent dividend. It is stated that control
of the road being secured, it was
then offered for sale to several lines,
Including the Wabash, but the compe
tition waa keen and the bid submitted
by the New Haven is understood to
have been more than the others were
willing to meet."

bride In the lottery of love. His was
a runaway marriage in Redlands,
His wife was a Miss Bylvene Peoples
of this city, who is said to have
property worth $1,000,000 in Ashvllle,
N. C.
The bride and groom are In Red-
lands, preparing to make a legal
fight if necessary. Mr. Josle Peoples,
the brides mother, Is prostrated.
She and her sons declare the daugh
ter is Insane, while the bride asserts
her mother Is crazy. The .groom's
father la in an asylum.
