valued at S630.000; 2,225,000 pounds
of cheese valued at 1267,000, and milk
and cream other than that used for
butter, valued at $1,800,000. The total
returns for that year were S,59",000,
He states that in 1903 the figures are
as follows:
'"Creamery butter 4,500,000 pounds
valued atll.525,000; dairy butter 2,000-

prices are practically the same aa in
1902, with the exception of milk de
livered by wagons. In this Instance
dairymen are receiving and consumers
are paying about 11 per cent advance
for milk delivered by the quart.
Within the past two years conden
sers have been established in the state. 1
In 1900 the wage earners received
$27,302 of the $639,222 received for the
milk, cheese and butter product of
Oregon. This question waa asked
this office:
"If In 1903 the milk, cheese and
butter product of Oregon waa valued
at $4,595,000, what portion did the
wage earner receive? Taking the
same ratio as In 1900, when the wage
earners received $27,302 of the $639,

IN A CLOSET FOUR DAY8.
Delirious With Fever, a Woman Nearly
Starves.
New York, Oct. 20. After a fruit
less search which began last Saturday
and had been taken up by the police
of the five boroughs of Greater New
York, Mrs. Rae Singer, 20 years old
has been found locked In a cloPt
within less than a block of her home In
East New York. She has been imprls
oned four days without food or
water.
While her nurse was absent for a
few momenta last Saturday, Mrs,
Singer, who. had been 111 for some time,
suddenly arose, threw on a wrap and
fled from the house In a delirium of
fever. Seeking refuge from Imaginary
pursuers she fled down the street, ran
into an unused building In the rear of
a mission and closed the door. A spring
lock snapped behind her and she was
a prisoner.
At lucid Intervals the woman scream
ed and pounded on the door, but the
neighbors paid little attention to the
sounds. They had continued Inter
mittently for four days. Then a woman
passerby discovered the source and
rescued the unfortunate patient. Mr.
Singer, who had searched the city con
tinuously for some trace of his wife,
arrived Just as she was found. She
recognized him at once and It Is be
lieved she will recover.

Millionaire Maiden's Will May Be

New York, Oct 20. Further testi
mony has been taken before Commis
sioner Robert F. Lee for use in the
California courts, where relatives are
contesting the will of Miss Bertha
M. Dolber, who last July plunged
from a ninth story window of the Wal
dorf Astoria. The relatives are at
tacking the sanity of Miss Dolbeer,
who made a testament with her own
hand by which Miss Etta M. Warren,
her traveling companion, Is chief bene
ficiary to the amount of more than
$1,000,000. N
Miss Warren, at a previous hearing,
testified that Miss Dolbeer tripped
and fell from the window to which
she had gone because of the heat In
the room. A city detective, Sullivan,
said that Miss Warren had told him
the same story. Hotel Detective J, E.
Smith has now testified, however,
flatly contradicting Sullivan's report
of the interview with Mlas Warren,
at which both men were present.
"Miss Warren told me, said the
hotel detective, "that she had been
In the room; that Miss Dolbeer com
plained she was ill on account of the
heat and went into the corridor.
Miss Waren said she saw Miss Dol
beer open the window, step on the
sill and jump."
Smith Waa sharply questioned by
counsel for the executors but de
clared his recollection could . not be
at fault The hearing will be con
tlnued.
WILL ROUND THE CAPE.
Baltio Fleet Provided With Cargo
Of Meat
New York, Oct 20. In spite of the
fact that the Baltic squadron Is at
sea, says a Times dispatch from Lon
don, war rtBks on clothing, etc., for
Japan are weaker. This seems rather
absurd, the corespondent declares,
since the squadron will certainly be
capable of intercepting merchant ves
sets carrying contraband goods for
Japan,
That the cape route is the way by
which the big ships will go ' Is in
dlcated by the purchase of the Brit
Uh steamer Maori King. This
steamer recently arrived at Liverpool
from the River Platte with an Im
mense cargo of meat.
She has been bought without un
loading by French intermediaries
and sails at once for the cape with
her cargo of meat The Maori King
Is to be renamed L'Esperance.
