Judge Mc Brlde expects to be In the city on December 19 to hold a session at which the docket will be cleared up. Judge McBrlde usually spenda Christ mas in this city, and will do ao again this year. ' E. O. Dickinson met with a peculiar and unfortunate accident Sunday eve ning. Near the postofflce square he attempted to light a cigar while walk ing along Commercial etreet and stepped upon a piece of brick. The brick turned with his weight and wrenched hla ankle. Investigation showed that four bones bad been broken. The sufferer will be laid up for eome time. The 1 Ffnnlsh Temperance Society produced a play at Suoml hall Satur day night The entertainment was given for the benefit tf the - society, which la seeking to have revoked the licenses of the two saloona doing busi ness In the west end. There were about 20 Characters In the drama, the success of which caused much satis faction. Meaara. The meeting will be held at the Chamber of Commerce rooms and It is expected every loyal Astorlan will be present The committee of three A. M. Smith, Harrison Allen and W. E. Schlmpff will make a final report, submitting to the meeting all the pro posals concerning the site which have been offered. It will also be determin ed this evening just what plan of or ganization shall be adopted. The com mitteemen said yesterday they had continued to meet with encouragement on every hand, and there Is not the least doubt of the success of the un dertaking. In view of the Importance of the matter, a large attendance of merchants, property owners and pro fessional men la looked for. Nearly all of the Astorlans who at tended the launch of the battleship Nebraska returned Saturday from Seattle. In the Astoria party were Mayor Surprenant, County Judge Trenchard, Captain Bailey of the tug Tatoosh, William Madison, H. F. Prael, A. C. Callan, P. A. Stokes, Mr. and Mrs. M. Foard, S. 8.' Gordon, John Fox and J. L. Kline. Judge Trenchard states that Captain Bailey left nothing undone to provide for the entertain ment of the Astoria delegation, which was accorded a hearty welcome by the people of Seattle. Captain Bailey had charge of the tug Tree, which towed the Nebraska to her anchorage, and the Astorlans were therefore enabled to secure an ' excellent view of the launch. Mra. W. T. Chutter and daughter were also on- the Tyee, and Mr. Chutter devoted considerable time to hla Astoria friends. All of the visitors to the sound city aay they were well repaid for their trip. ' Victor Llndstrom, a deckhand em ployed on the , dredge Chinook, was killed Sunday evening by a train on the Fort Stevens branch of the A. & C, It was dark when tha unfortunate man waa run down and tne circum stances eurroundlng.the accident are not known. ; Brakeman Hudson saw the body of a man lying beside the track as the .'train waa, pulling out of Hammond,-and when the twin, was stopped the man was found to be fatal ly Injdred. His skull was crushed and three fingers of . the right hand were severed. The man waa still alive and the train crew started with him for Fort Stevens, but he, succumbed on the way. It Is supposed he was under the Influence of liquor and foiled to get out of the way of the train, Llndstrom was 40 years of age.
