The demands for sleeping car space
in the Denver & Rio Grande's popular
through tourlat excursions have been
so great three such excursions will be
run on tha next and last selling dates-i-
October S, 4 and 6. On each of these
jays apeclal tourist excursions will be
run from Portland without change of
cars over the "Scenic Line of the
World.", October 3 there will also be
run a special Pullman excursion. These

Mrs. Delphla Rogers, a colored woman
whose snowy white hair betokens heir
yeara, was queen of the Iowa negroe's
emancipation celebration held here.
This colored woman, who now bears
the distinction of being the oldest resi
dent In the state, Is quite feeble in
years, but yet manages to 4e about
and looks as though she would live
to see many more emancipation cele
brations. When news was brought to her that
she was to reign as queen of the car
nival her dark face lighted p with ft
smile that would do flattery to a young
girl and with a giddiness she expressed
her delight for theopportunlty to reign
supreme for ope day to offset the many
years she spent In actual slavery be
fore the proclamatlou of Lincoln.
Mrs. Rogers Is more notable than

tember mortality on record, according
to the weekly bulletin of the Chicago
health department its total of 193S
