SCHERNECKAU, Director. PLIGHT OF MILLIONAIRE. Mistaken for Pupr H I. Confined In New York Hospital. New Tork, Sept. 28. While hi. friends and relatives were searching the city for him John H. Onderdonk,'. nephew of former Judge Onderdonk, and whose wealth Is estimated at $1,000,000, waa an Inmate of the Metro politan hospital, on Blackwell's Island, where he was looked upon as a derelict of the streets for four days. It was only by accident that he waa found there by his physician, Dr. M. B. Feeney, of No. 30 Seventh street Dr. Feeney had been treating another pa tient in the hospital and Mr. Onder donk heard this person mention the physician's name. He then prevailed upon one of the employes of the Institution to call the doctor by telephone and Inform him of bis own plight Mr. Onderdonk Is a sufferer from lo comotor ataxia, which Induces fits ot vertigo. He left the home of Mrs. M. B. Dresner, with whom he boarded, at No. 50 West Twelfth street, on Satur day morning and boarded a north bound Sixth avenue car. At Sixtieth street he left the car and was almost Immediately attacked by hi ailment Sinking to a doorstep he waa found there by a policeman, who took him to the Presbyterian hospital. where his case was diagnosed as one of senility. As Mr. Onderdonk, who In earlier life was conspicuous for his fashion able appearance, has of late years worn old and shabby clothing, there waa no suspicion that he was a man of means. One feature of locomotor ataxia la that It prevents the victim from form ing his thoughts Into words, and Mr. Onderdonk waa unable to explain his situation until the Incident of the other patient rallied hi. mind and he waa able to get word to Dr. Feeney. Purchasing Power of $2.50 in 1401. Westminster Gazette: The wonder ful change that has taken place In the purchasing power of money Is Illus trated by a case cited In an article on the Manor of Great Waitham In the Essex Review for July: "July, 1401 John Parker, sr., sur rendered to his son John and said son's wife, Christina, his messuage and quar-ter-vlrgate of copyhold, conditionally, that they shall keep John (senior) In food and clothes (both linen and wool) well and sufficiently for the rest of his life, or else, at John's (senior) option, pay him 10 shillings a year." Ten shillings as a fair equivalent for whole year's liberal board, lodging, clothing and washing is noteworthy. Upon recovery the glands of the neck were very much enlarged, and after the free use of iodine, the right one was reduced to its normal size, but the left one continued to grow very slowly at first, until it wag about the size of a goose egg, which began to press on the wind pipe, causing difficult breathing, and be came very painful. An incision was made and a large quantity of pus discharged. The gland was removed, or as much aa could with safety be taken out. For ten years I wore a little piece of cloth about an Inch long in my neck to keep the place this time I had to have it 3unn cut open by the doctor every time I took cold or the openbrrclos-eed. In the Sorine or early Summer of 1884 1 was persuaded by my wife to use S. S. S., which I did, .tnctly m accordance with directions. I took twenty-six large bottles, and was en tirely cured, for I have not suffered since that time. B. S. Raglan d. Royal Bag Mfg. Co., Charleston, S.
