Record-Herald from Milwaukee, eaye
George Faulkerson, William Andrew.
and a man named Lee have given up

years of patient research two profes
sors of Geneva, Switzerland, have dis
covered a new anesthetic which prom
ises to revolutionize the practice of
dentistry. In reporting to the state
department Consul Leifleid- as Fref
burg, Germany, states that finding the
nervous system waa Influenced by col
ored light the" professors soon perceived
after experimenting with each hue that
blue had an extraordinarily soothing
effect" on the nerves.
The consul says that a tooth may be
painlessly extracted with none of the
after effects on the system, by shut
ting up the patient in a dark room and
exposing his eyes to a blue light of
16 candle power for three minutes,
causing him to lose all sense of pain,
although at the tame time retaining
his senses. -
BOGUS OFFICER IN TOILS.
San Francisco Man Gets Tangled Up
in Maine.
Fanmthgton, Me, Sept 2L Leroy A.
French of San Francisco, claiming to
be a member of the United States se
cret service force assigned to the state
of Maine to apprehend counterfeiters,
drove to this place yesterday from
Rangeley, 40 miles away and lodged,
in Jail G. A. Harlow of Pittsfleld, Me.
French charged Harlow with being a
counterfeiter.
Later W. L. Butler of Rangeley, a
liveryman from whom French secured
the horse and buggy, had the alleged
secret service officer landed in jail on
a charge of stealing the conveyance.
French waa arrested while endeavor
ing to cash at a local bank . three
checks aggregating 400. signed by Har
low. He had taken the Jailer to iden
tify him. The state police here say
they do not know French as a secret
service officer. ,

Odd
Fellows to Be Taxed to 8upport
Headquarters.
San Francisco, Sept 21. The Inter
national council of the , Patriarch's
Militant have decided to change the
design of the cap now worn by the un
iformed Odd Fellows. The new cap
will be the same aa that worn by the
United States army, with the excep
tion of the necessary independent or
der of Odd Fellows attachments.
The council has also decided to Im
pose a per capita tax of 25 cents for
the purpose of assisting in maintain
ing the headquarters of the order at
Marengo, la. ;
