the powers to end the war are con
sidered toduy by the Nevoe Vremyn,
which says there is no prospect of any
such action by France, which country
would sincerely like to see peace. The
paper says It would rather that Ger
many should undertake the task of
separating the combatants, while Ger
many has not the same material In
terests to be affected ns Frame nnd
the United States. . .
On the other hand, the Novoe Vrem-
ya continues,' America Is entirely too
busy with the national election to un
dertake such a daring task, so that
Russia may as well look forward to
the conclusion of the war without pros
pect that any world power will even
attempt to Interfere.

This has resulted in a feeling of dis
like for the "camera fiend," as he Is
sometimes called, and has perhaps
led to the designing of a rather unique
scheme to secure pictures on the quiet
No one would suspect an Innocent
looking walking stick of concealing a
photographic lens, shutter and roll Of
sensitized films, and yet that is Just
what this cano Is designed to do. The
artist has shown a portion of the bead
cut away to expose the interior mech
anism, Illustrating the manner In
which the film Is wound over the roll
ers to bring it in position for use at
the rear of the lens. It Is Intended to
make provision for loading and un
loading the camera by daylight, and
quite a respectable looking picture
can be obtained with it in the hands
of a practiced operator.
This cane camera Is the invention of
Emile Kronke, Dresden, Germany.

mending a new and peculiar remedy

which, It Is declared, will obviate the
necessity for the use of the knife In the

consists in walking on all fours twenty

only original, but almost aboriginal.
However this may be, the method Is
certainly worthy of consideration. This
method of treatment operates by
strengthening the abdominal, muscles.
It Is claimed that a well known Ger
man diplomat has been recently cured
of chronic appendicitis by this method.
