This evening "The Highwayman
will be produced. It la the story of
the career of an Australian robber who
tries to enter English society, and,
meeting his mother, whom he has
never known, gives up his Intention of
wrecking the life of the girl whose
heart he had won. Finally, hunted to
earth by detectives sent after him, he

A "JOE" WHEELER 8T0RY.
Up at the Union Club one of the
"regulars" says that Major George
Crelghton Webb or plain Crelghton
Webb, as all the old Yale men in New
York know him vouches for the cor
rectness of the incidents In this story,
as told by General "Joe" Wheeler. The
thing happened during the night of
the El Caney affair In the Cuban cam
paign in 1898:
"General Lawson's division was
marching back to El Poso, there to take
up a new position In the morning. The
general, In company with Major Webb,
Inspector general of his staff, was
standing at the edge of the road,
watching his troops file past. Just as
dawn was breaking the colored troops
came In sight They gave evidence of
being dead tired, but were neverthe
less full of 'ginger.'
"General Lawton's attention was at
tracted to a certain corporal of the
Twenty-fifth Infantry, a great six
foot negro, who In addition to a couple
of guns and two, cartridge belts loaded
full was carrying a dog. The soldier
the chief magistracy. To such persons
a soggy conservative like Mr. Cleve
landhappy In the occupancy of the
office and the agreeable exercise of Its
routine and willing to keep things as
they are naturally becomes the Ideal
president. But to democrats of senti
ment and conviction Mr. Cleveland
stands as the Incarnation of Ignorance
obstinacy and failure. ' To his Insuffi
ciency, his Insufferable self-confidence
and exasperating tactlessness, we owe
our undoing. He wrecked us. Are

"I would cough nearly all night
long," writes Mrs. Chas. Applegate of
Alexandria, Ind., "and could hardly get
any sleep. I had consumption so bad
that If I walked a block I would cough
frightfully and spit blood, but, when all
other medicines failed, three ' $1.00
bottles of Dr. King's New Discovery
