BANDITS GOT VERY LITTLE Men Who Held Up International & Great Northern Secured but $30 in Cash. ONE OF THE ROBBERS HURT Party Connoted of Four Men, Who Were Itank Amateurs Sheriff and Iofte Are Still Pursuing Tiicm. Houston, Texan, July 18. Train No. B on the International k. Great North ern wai held up tonight at Keechl, a small atatlon about 30 miles west of Palestine. There were four bandits In the party, all young men and ap parently very much amateurs. They dynamited the express car without de taching It from the train and blew In the end of the second class coach, but without Injuring any of the passen gers. One of the robbers was appar ently badly hurt as the explosion ap peared to be premature and be was observed to be covered with blood. The robbers secured nothing, not mo lesting either the express or the mail, and getting away as fast as possible after their comrade was hurt. Fire man Itlram Muse Jumped from the locomotive as the train slowed down, ties having been piled across the track, and hurt bis shoulder, but not seriously. None of the passengers was molested. The adjutant general has been notified and a special train With Sheriff Henry Watts, his dogs and a posse left Palestine early this morn ing for the scene of the holdup. A squad of rangers is stationed near the scene of the holdup and It Is prob able that they will be put on the case at once. It is anticipated that arrests will be made shortly as the bandits are said to be country lads raised In the neighborhood One arrest has been made in con nection with the International & Great Northern train robbery at Spears last night The suspect, whose name Is not known, declares his Innocence. The sheriff and a posse have been at work all day tracking the bandits. It Is officially" reported that the bandits, of whom there were four, according to the best Information, secured only $30 and some railroad tickets. . that institution on Wednesday after noon were captured at Jefferson, a few miles north of this city by two small boys, who were In the woods at play. The two little fellows had with them a toy rifle, and when they saw the two escapes from the reform school, of whose disappearance they had heard, they boldly decided on cap turing them Holding his toy rifle In such a man ner as to give the escapes the impres sion that it was a full-grown target rifle, one of the boys called upon the fugitives to surrender, at the same time pointing the gun In their direc tion. The escapes seeing. a gun star ing them in the face, Imagined It to be the size of a cannon, and meekly obeyed the order tot march Into the town of Jefferson, where grown people assisted the boy captors in securing the runaways. Superintendent N. H. Looney of the reform school was notified of the catch, and at once came up and es corted the boys back to the school, after paying the young captors S10 each for the service they had per formed for the state. ' Councilman Feeler of Portland has framed the following firecracker ordl nance, which has been approved by the health and police committee, and that committee will recommend its enact ment. The ordinance is here reproduc ed for the consideration of Astoria councllmen: Section 1. That hereafter It shall be unlawful for any person within the city of Portland to shoot or discharge any gun, revolver, pistol or firearms of any description or kind, whether the same be loaded with powder and ball or shot, or with loaded or blank cart ridges, so called, or any kind of ex plosive whatever; or to shoot or dis' charge any preparation of chlorate of potash, mixture of sulphur and salt' peter, or other dangerous explosive, or any mud cans, so called: toy cannon, loaded anvils, loaded canes, or similar devices, or any giant or cannon crack ers, Dewey chasers, so called; or other fireworks of similar character; Chinese bombs, or any firecrackers exceeding four inches In length, or any kind of fireworks or explosives whatever, dan gerous to persons or property, and all such acts are hereby prohibited: Pro vided, that this ordinance does not ap ply to any county or city octal In the performance of his official duties. Sec. 2. , That hereafter it shall be unlawful for any person or dealer therein to Bell, expose or offer for sale, or In any manner furnish or dispose of to any resident of the city of Port land, or to any other person for use in said city, or to any minor person at any time, any blank cartridge pistol or revolver, or any blalk cartridges, or any of the explosives, firecrackers or fireworks, the use of which is prohib ited In section 1 of this ordinance. ' Sec. 8. That any person who shall violate any of the terms or provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine ot not less than five dollars (J5.00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each such offense.
