Witnesses have testified to District Attorney John Manning that gambling was being conducted in the Portland Club and also in Erickson's establish ment, says the Oregonlan. The wit nesses were brought to the district at torney's office by Dan R. Murphy, at torney of the Orpheum gambling house, whose closing by the police has pre clpltated a crisis in the gambling sit uation. Acting upon the testimony of those witnesses, information against the pro prletor will probably be filed In the circuit court "I have heard some witnesses, but there is another to be heard yct;H said Mr. Manning last evening. "Will you file Information from the testimony of thes witnesses V was asked. 1 don't care to say as to that, or When it will be done, as that would give notice to these proprietors," he replied. "But I can tell you one thing, no one will be arrested tonight" . "I have placed the Information before Mr. Manning and I will give blm suffl cient time to file the information with the court," said Attorney Murphy yes terday. "We will force him to take some action. The other , gambling bouses here are running. McDevltt wants to run one; why can't her t The members of the city government are sitting back and watching the dis trict attorney's office with Interest "No, the city administration can tool do any thing even if It had the desire to do so," aaid Mayor Williams yester day. "As far a I am concerned, I Would like to see every gambling house out of the city, but I can't see where the money will come from to run the city." The sporting element Is keeping it eye on the ofilce of the district attor ney with even more interest than are the city officials. To be sure, there is "nothln' doln'" about the gambling bouses Just now, during the summer months, but there are enough rumors of expose and conflict to satisfy the most ardent sensation-seeker. The Orpheum gambling house case was called in the municipal court yes terday, but at the request of the de fendant's counsel was continued until this morning, at which time it wUl be heard by Judge Hogue. Brutally Tortured. "I would cough nearly all night long," writes Mrs. Chaa. Applegate of Alexandria, Ind, "and could hardly get any sleep. I had consumption so bad that If I walked a block I would cough frightfully and spit blood, but when all other medicines failed, three $1.00 bottles of Dr. King's New Discovery wholly cured me' and I gained 68 pounds."
