A body of Japanese cavalry encountered and de feated a mixed force of Russian cav alry, Infantry and artillery near Ucha- ton, nine mile, north of Pu Landlen on Monday last, May 30. Tha engagement began at 12:30 p. m., and lasted for two hours, tbe Russian troops being finally driven northward. The Japan ese had 21 man killed, Including the officer and 17 wounded, including four officers. The movement of the Rus sian forces southward Indicates a pos sible effort to relieve Port Arthur. Chicago, June 8. Two women who dress stylishly and are experts In the handling of an automobile are being sought by the police, who declare them to be the cleverest thieves that have visited Chicago in years. Articles valued at $1200 were stolen from a furrier's establishment at night. following a visit from the two women In the afternoon when they had re quested the goods "to be laid aside un til morning." Boih women wore automobile coats and their machine was left standing at the curb while they were in the store. The police are of the opinion that the women are working under the instruc tions of men.
