The oriental liner Indrasamha ar
rived In port yesterday afternon from
far eastern points. Sh had an un
eventful passage and nothing of In
terest occurred. Aa soon as the ar
rived she was placed in temporary;
quarantine, where Dr. Eatle examined
her passengers and found them free
rrom contagious diseases. She was
released late In the afternoon and this
morning will leave up the river to
discharge her cargo.
The Indrasamha Is now here on her
last trip. She was chartered by the
Portland-Asiatic Steamship Company,
otherwise the 0. R. & N. Co., some
months ago and has made several trips
from the Columbia to the orient Her
charter has now expired and when she
departs she will say farewell to this
port.
"We had a very enjoyable trip," said
one of the officers of the vessel "No
Russian or Japanese warships hunted
us down In the night or fired any shots
across our bow, nor were we stood up
on the high seas and searched for war
materials. It was a very peaceable
trip, and we amused ourselves by rid
ing the camels which the Japs brought
over, to lend enchantment to their
world's fair exhibit.
'Those geisha girls?" Oh, we brought
only one on this trip. I am informed
we were to have brought 20 or 250.
Inquiry developed the fact that about
50 were booked for the passage, but
through some error they did not come
aboard. Sorry to disappoint you, old
man, but this Is the only geisha girl
we have," and the officer pointed to a
winsome Japanese lass of 19 or 20, with
rather an attractive face, but a form
hardly up to the romantic descriptions
hlch have made these girls famous
Assured that the young woman was
really and truly a geisha girl, the
camera fiend snapped her In all sorts
poses, till the wee little miss was
quite worn out. However, she seemed
to enjoy the experience. There were
no other female passengers aboard.
The Indrasamha's cargo Is one of
the most valuable ever brought to this
port and Is made up almost entirely of
Japanese fair exhibits, to be displayed
at St Louis and at Portland. There
is a large assortment of fancy crock
eryware of all kinds and many costly
curios. The vessel came with a clean
bill of health and the six cabin and 33
steerage passengers ull stood the phy
sical examination to which they were
subjected.
The oriental liner Ching Wo was re
leased from quarantine yesterday by
Dr. Earle and allowed to proceed up
the river. She waa brought around
from the quarantine station by Pilot
Lelghton, who was right glad to be
again accorded his freedom. The ves-,
gel was subjected to a most thorough
fumigation. She left up the river dur
ing the afternoon. ,

of lumber.
The lighthouse tender Heather yes
terday placed In postlon at the mouth
of th river the new gas buoy which
was sent here to take the place, of the
old buoy, which was submerged by
the current and rendered useless. Com

Germany Cedes to Russia Torpedo
Boats Now Building.
New York, April 23. Some seusa
lion has been caused In Berlin, says' a
Herald dlsputch, by a rumor to the
effect that Germany has ceded to Rub

of completion. Eight of these, which
are being built by the Schlchau yards
are the largest torpedo boats as yet
constructed In Germany, being 850 tons
with an average speed of 28.
In ordr to prevent a breach of neu
trallty It would be necessary that the
German government annul Its contract
with the vnrd. leaving the builders
free to do as they please with the tor

their deep draft the Pacific Mall Com
