REPAIRS NOT COMPLETED In buying food-products, several things are to be thought of i. e., Economy, Results, Easy Handling, Reliability, but the most important is Health. Health means everything. In buying clothes, shoes, hats, furniture, eic, if the buyer is deceived and gets an imitation the only harm is loss of money. In buy ing food-products, if imitations are sup plied, there is not only a loss of money, . but perhaps an injury to health which is beyond price. Remember these facts when baying baking powder. Millionaire Min.r Guards Againtt Visit From Alleged Cousin. Berkeley, April 15. Andrew Hunk er, the man that discovered Uie Hunk, er Creek mines in the Klondike and dug three or four millions in gold out ot them, is guarding himself against a woman. He is not exactly undergo lag a seige, but he expects his castle M Hit Bancroft way to be stormed any minute and he swears he isn't go ing to take any chances that may be altogether unnecessary. The millionaire miner, for he Is rated as such, claims Sirs. Christine Carroll for his nemesis- Mrs. Car. roll's actions in regard to the afore said castle on Bancroft way displeased him awhile ago. She refused and he appealed to the law. It took a writ of resistution, backed by the lay. to finally acomplish her ejectment. The whole case was fought out in Judge Melvin's court last Friday. Hun ker had no difficulty in proving that the house in question is his own. In her own behalf Mrs. Carroll sought to show that it had been given to her by Hunker as an engagement present. Hunker denied that matrimony had ever figured in the transaction at all . Anyway Judge Melvin said that Mrs Carroll was wrong and gave Hunker possessinon of the house. Hunker was so well satisfied with his victory that he did not go near the house on that day. He let to deputy sheriffs go out to take possession of the house. But when the deputy sher Iffs arrived they found that Mrs. Car (Portland Journal.) Shipping men are annoyed at the long detention of the dredge Chinook In Portland harbor. She has been there about six weeks undergoing re pairs to her boilers, and at the time she was brought up from Astoria It was generally understood that the work would be completed In about three weeks. Shippers are anxious for her to get back to the bar and Im prove the time during the continuance of this good weather. It Is pointed out that she could have been operated every hour of the time for the past week had she been down there and In proper shape. As It is the time Is counted lost. They assert that It Is more Important to the Interests of this port to have that dredging done at the mouth of the river than any other local Improvement which has been under contemplation for years. All along, they declare, It apears that everything has been operating to delay the dredging. In the first place they state, the vessel was sent to the Columbia river from California about Ave months later than she should have been. She got up here at the time the roll had been there before them. She 8tormy had ,et n and aa a had taken away most of the furniture consequence it was Impossible for her to make any showing of Importance. She was out on the bar only about half a dozen times, and then she re. malned but a short time, owing to the rough weather. Finally her boilers got out of repair, and It was decided to bring the dredge up to Portland and had a lot packed up for future de livery to the expressman. The window curtains were gone, ted covers gone, as was everything that could be moved in a hurry. Some of the things that could not be moved away easily were stored in the house of a neighbor who THE. FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Rev, HERBERT HOPKINS BROWN.
