SAVING TIDE LANDS.
Ten Acres Will Be Used by Portland
Cordage Company.
Seattle. March 21. It Is probable
that within a week or so the contract
for filling In 10 acres of ttde lands nt
Smith cove, north of the Great North
ern dock, will be awarded by the Port
land Cordage Company. Bids on the
work were opened several days ago.
the Seattle Bridge Company's offer to
do the work for $45,000 being the low
est, and those who are conversant with
the nature of the proposed Improve
ments state that this bid will un
doubtedly be accepted by the Portland
concern. ,
It Is.. the intention of the Portland
house to construct a big cordage and
rope plant on the reclaimed land and
the fact that sufficient property must'
be filled in, according to the contract.
within 60 days to allowed of the build
ing of the plant,' looks as if the Ore
gon concern was going to waste no
time in the work of construction
About 200,000 cubic yards of ma
terial Will be used to fill In the land to
the same level a. the reclaimed lands
at the south of the city. The neces
sary material will ellher be pumped
or secured by the use of a suction
dredge from Smith cove or else will
be sluiced down from the company's
land on he hillside adjacent to the
property. A year Is the limit in which
the entire' work is to be completed.
The 60-day clause applies only to a
portion of the land sufficient for the
construction of the building.

According to the stories told by Ills
neighbors, Kwong had a rut her mor

Kwong. they say. owes money to every
one that he knows In Chinatown, and
they unfversally say "Him no good."
A tall Chinaman with a black eye
and a bright emerald sweater vouch
safed the Information that Kwong had
gone "eatchem Fresno;" that he has
friends there, and will stay In hiding
until his debts are outlawed.
Among the goods that were seised
yesterday was a valuable stock sf pre
served ginger and spices.
MORE RIOTS.
Disturbances of strikers are not
nearly as grave as an individual disor
der of the system. Overwork, loss of
sleep, nervous tension will be followed
by utter collapse, unless a reliable rem
edy Is Immediately employed. There's
nothing so efficient to cure disorders
of the Liver and Kidneys as Electric
Bitters. It's a wonderful tonic, end
effective nervine and the greatest all
around medicine for run down systems.

San Francisco', March 21 Owing to
his Inability to' settle with his credi
tors, among whom Is an Irate land
lady, Kwong On Lung, head of the
firm of Kwong On Lung & Co., 726
Jackson street, left town hurriedly
about a month ago, leaving behind a
large stock of rice, nuts, oil and other
Chinese delicacies.
In figuring up her accounts againHt
Kwong, Anna Moore, owner of the
property at 726 Jackson street, found
had gotten the beat of hereby $189.
The store was locked up, and was
stocked with all varieties of goods.
Miss Moore thought that she 'might
square matters by claiming them, but
was informed that the only way in
which she might claim her property
would be to have the sheriff take
charge of the stock of goods.
Accordingly yesterday morning the
building was proceeded to unceremon
iously thrown open the doors and pile
the merchandise out on the street.
Before two boxes had been can-led
out Chinese of all sizes and descrip
tions poured In from all directions. As
each load of stuff was taken to the
street the crowds thronged about it
and gazed longingly on the delicacies.
Some even went so far as to grab
boxes of noodles and rice when the
officers' backs were turned. The po
lice gave chase, however, and each
time locked up the offenders on a
charge of petty larceny. ,
By the time the store was cleared
out several arrests were made. One
