This beautiful spring bognn sending forth Its refreshing stream before the Louisiana Purchase was made a hun- hred years ago and no matter how dry the summer there has never been any diminution of Its flow. When the landscape architect with big steam shovels, ntenm scrapers, with armies of men and hundreds of muUs at his command, began altering thut part of the earth's surface embraced In the exxpoaitlon grounds, cutting down a hill here, filling 4n a valley there. Mr. Frederic W. Taylor, chief of the department of agriculture, gave strict orders that the spring must not be molested. A weeping willow tree that must have been growing for more than fifty yrs spreads out Its green branches over the spring and creates a delight- tut shade. The water as It bubMe from the ground flows down a steep lit. hillside through a miniature ravine In which dnlnty ferns and pretty mosso luxuriate. Chief Taylor has authorised1 the building of a quaint, old-fashioned spring house over it. An old-fushloned well-sweep will lift the water In a miwa-covered, Iron bound oukett oii' kH. The walls of the structure will be covered with bnrk of forest trees tmd the roof will be thatched. Rustic scuts will be placed conveniently In the siring houso and lit available spot down the ravine. Cups will be pro vided and the visitor who at some time or another has seen Just such a sight, nnd regnlod hlmsMf with Just such a drink, will recall the pleasant memories as he pause In his self-Imposed task o seeing the world's fair wonders. The water Is as clear as crystal. It' Is Just the right temperaturenot so cold as Iced water and much cohlerJ than the water that flows through the city mains, It Is a mineral wuter, but has no odor and no repvllunt taste. Its flow Is sufficient to provide cold and re fieahlng nnd healthful drink for thou-' winds and the old fashioned spring house I sure to become a popular re sort In Agriculture Hill where so many other beauty snots have been created.
