PAGE SIX THE MORNING ASTORIAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, 190-1, ANTELOPE IS SAFE IN PORT Little Schooner Arrives at Port Townsend After Having Been Given Up for Lost ; IS IN DAMAGED CONDITION Was Flftj' Eight Days Out From Sail Francisco for Coquille Klver Other Maritime Happening's. : News reached 'Astoria yesterday from Port Townsend that the scow' schooner Antelope, belonging to O. W. . Hume & Co of. San Francisco, had ar rived there in a badly damaged con dition. The tittle vessel had been caught in the severe storm which raged along the coast in the latter part of January and was blown several hun dred miles oft her course. She man aged to make Port Townsend, and it , la probable she will be repaired there. The Antelope left San Francisco late In January for the Coquille river. About two weeks after her departure from the Bay city she was 'believed to have been sighted tff the river, but the steamer reporting her was not cer tain as to the identity of the vessel However, she did not reach the Co quille, and for 88 days no word was received of her. A few days ago she was again given -up for lost and the owners expected never again to hear from her. However, her master. Cap tain Cuthrell, is an experienced man and had previously had close calls, so he managed to pull his little vessel through the storms. Doubtless the Antelope will be repaired at Town send and then proceed south to the Coquille. ? to the National Oil transportation Company, of Portland. The vessel also brought 75 bunches of bananas for Page & Son, of Portland. i To Improve Three Harbors. Captain England and the Steward Se- verely Injure Each Other. Captain England, of the British four- masted bark Thistle, and his steward. John Lennox, became involved in an al tercation Monday night at Portland that resulted in serious injury to both men. Lennox was arrested upon com plaint of the captain, who charges him with assault with a dangerous weapon. The trouble came up at the evening meal, when the captain complained the steward because his plate was not clean. The steward made a saucy re ply, which, according to his statement, the captain resented by striking the steward with brass knuckles. The steward seized a handy belaying pin and struck the captain a blow that put him out of business. The steward followed up the advantage thus gained, and when he finished with the master he was a sorry spectacle. Finally as sistance arrived and the steward was placed under restraint Captain England's injuries are seri ous, but he is getting along nicely. The steward's face is cut In several places.
