Sellers of southern foundry Iron are more eagerly looking for business for forward delivery. The drastic measures of No vember and December have been told and it Is understood that even with the new capacity at work the requirements are urgent. , , . ! . Specifications for steel are coming In at a more lively rate and tonnage is In creasing.' ''' ;'' ,, ) The paucity of orders from the rail roads has brought to grief a very long ' established pool, that on locomotive tires. Lately open hearth steel tires have sold as tow as 2 1-2 cents deliv ery at .llstant points. The arrangement existing among the three leading mills of the central west which make hoops and bands has gone to pieces and low prices are being made. Since this preceded, the fixing of prices for cotton ties an open market for thaf 1 latter seems certain. Reports from the wire and tube trades continue excelent. Reports relating to the bar trade are mixed. Some note a very good tonnage and others complain of local cutting. A somewhat better volume of busi ness is coming out in plates ana in structural material, but even with this encouragement the tonnage is quite In adequate. ! It was the intention of Bishop Rowe to visit Fair banks and other towns in the Tanana district and later to cross the divide and follow the trail down to Valdes. From, Rampart also comes the story, received there from Council, of a great scattering of golden treaesure caused, by the antics ot an unruly, broncho. Fred Myers, manager of the Arctic Trading Company at Council City, loaded $20,000 in gold dust on a cayuse one day early in December and started t for Nome. ':: ';', Myers took the trail, thinking the cayuse was following him. but he was wrong. The animal ran away, resisting all attempts to catch him, and also dodged numerous bullets.; He was fin ally caught after scattering consider able dust around the country. With the mercury hovering near the 50 below mark, Captain Douglas, the cheechaco inspector of police, this be ing his first year in the north, left by private rig for Forty-Mile yesterday morning. Being a new comer, the captain wore everything that was suggested by his friends with the result that, In ad dition to his every-day attire, he left clad in a big sweater, a heavy fur overcoat and a parkey. ; He also wore two fur caps. His hands were encased In silk gloves), wool mits and a heavy pair of fur mlts wjth beads on them. He wore the beads in order that when he rubbed his face and the beads did not scratch his cheeks and pose' he would know they were frosen. , ' i ) Advices from Rampart, dated De cember 6, say that Bishop P.
