Summons already have been served on Commissioner Oakley. Robert O. Langdon, the petitioner, asks the court to Issue a mandatory, in junction, ordering the city officials named to investigate the conditions at tending the manufacture and distribu tion of the Illuminating gas of every company in the city of New Tork. A report was made to the governor a few days ago by, the state meter inspector declaring that out of nearly 71,000 met era here one out of every Ave was de fective In favor of the company. Examination of the Manhattan rec ords of the coroner's office showed that in November 25 persons were asphyxl ated by gas, In December 23 and in January 38, making a total of 89 for the thr.ee months. Coroner Scholer as serts that the figures are almost as high In the other boroughs of Greater New York, The coroner declares that his experience in hospial work formerly showed that persons lying all night in a room partly filled with gas frequently recovered, but that now the victims al most Invarlaby die after breathing the fumes an hour.
