Not a vestige of the Italian bark
Cavour remains on the spit where U
was stranded. Twenty-four hours after
it struck, the vessel, together with the
cargo, had wahed away, so it is doubt
ful if any one who visits the scene
of the wreck today ; will be able to
carry away even a souvenir of the dis
aster. Captain Loflnaos waa busy yes
twday cabling to its owner, and will
Receive instructions as to what course
to pursue. ,." .
Captain Hoben, Lloyd's surveyor, had
occasion to Inspect the Cavour while
she was at Portland, and while she was
pronounced to be in need of slight re
pairs, there was no cause for anxiety.
The bark leaked, but not more than,
was customary for a, wooden hull ves
sel. She was built in Nova Scotia 22
years ago, and o was not considered
too old for service. The cargo was re-
ooiveA at the North Pacific mill, and
waa valued at J16.1D8. ..,...
Owing to quarantine regulations that
recently became operative, relative to
immigration, the crew of the Cavour
underwent an examination by Dr.Earle
on the return of the men to this port.
Dr. Barle pronounces the men to be In
fairly good health, there appearing
nothing in their physical condition to
debar them from remaining in the
country. The crew is composed of Italr
lans, Peruvians, Spaniards and Portu
guese.
