Her cargo consists of 800,000 feet. The German steamship Elba arrived down the river yesterday and departed for Kobe, for orders. She took 189,409 bushels of wheat, valued at $146,200. The tug Samson departed yesterday for Ladysmlth, B. C., with the barge Washtucna In tow. The Samson Is in charge of Captain James Tatton and during the winter will be engaged In towing coal barges from the sound to coast points. The tug Vosburg, which arrived Fri day from Nehalem. brought a raft of 150,000 feet of logs for the Clatsop Mill Company. She reports having towed to sea from Tillamook on Tuesday the schooners Guide and C. T. Hill, both lumber laden for San Francisco, and having towed in on the same day the schooner Jennie Thielen. The Vosburg towed to sea on Thursday the schooner Oakland, lumber laden for San Fran cisco. WAITING FOR WITNESS. The preliminary examination of H Kanaoka, the Japanese section hand now held at the county jail on charges of robbery and assault with Intent to kill, will not take place for some days to come. The Jap upon whom the assault was committed is still laid up at Port land hospital hospital, and It is neces sary to await his recovery before the examination can be held. w. C. The Astoria football team has effect ed organization for the season, George 'Barker having been chosen manager and M. Knutsen captain. Negotiations are under way for games with several other out side teams, and some good sport is promised. Charles H. A huge lump of iron found on a farm near this city recently Is a meteor of almost pure iron: with a trace of nickle.
