Philadelphia. Oct. IS-One of the
most remarkable libraries In existence
has beeii put up at auction here. It
was collect! by Howard T. Goodwin,
confidential clerk of the banking firm,
who committed suicide when confront

Ing to one million dollars.
Goodwin's hobby was book collecting
and to irratlfy this desire he Is said to
have speculated with money not his.
It is estimated that he spent over
$100,000 on his library and the books
onerea include some of the moat
beautiful specimens of the printer's art
and the finest nets of nearly all the
great authors. x The bidding was re
markably slow, however, and IOJ vol
